Dalmatian Dog (Definite Introduction)
The height of the Dalmatian at the withers is approximately 19-23 inches. Too big or too small is a shortcoming. All dogs, male or female, over 24 inches tall at the withers shall be disqualified. The entire length of the body (distance from sternum to croup) is consistent with the height of the shoulders. The Dalmatian has a good physique, with rich and strong bones, but never rough.
Morphological Characteristics
Head: The head of the Dalmatian dog is proportionate and coordinated with the entire body. Has a precise length and is not easy on the skin.
Appearance: The Dalmatian's expression is warning and intelligent, showing a calm and outgoing temperament. Eyes: slightly open in position, of average size, somewhat round in shape, and well placed on the skull. The color of the eyes is usually brown or blue, or a combination of the two. A darker color is more ideal. Often the eyes of black freckles are darker than those of liver-colored freckles. Abnormally positioned eyelids or eyelashes (entropion, ectropion, inverted eyelashes) are serious faults. Under-eye pigmentation is also a serious fault.
Ears: Ears are of average size, slightly wider at the base (matching ratio), gradually tapering, and slightly rounded at the top. The seat is high, close to the head, and the quality of the auricles is thin and delicate. When the Dalmatian is warning, the tops of the ears should be level with the top of the head, and the tips of the ears should extend below the base of the cheek.
Skull: The top of the head is flat, with a slight longitudinal indentation in the center. The width and length of the skull are very similar.
Stop: Excessive understanding of the stop. The cheeks blend smoothly into the powerful tone.
Mood: The surface of the breath and the surface of the skull are parallel to each other, and the length is approximately the same as the length of the skull.
Nose: The nose is full of pigment. Dogs with black freckles have a black nose color; dogs with liver-colored freckles have a brown nose color. A lack of pigmentation on the nose (part of the nose is flesh-colored or the entire nose is flesh-colored) is a serious fault.
Lips: clean and closed.
Bite: scissors bite. Overbiting with the upper jaw or overbiting with the lower jaw is a disqualification.
Neck: Beautifully arc-shaped, quite long, without fat, smoothly blending into the shoulder blades.
Topline: Smooth.
Chest: Deep, with large chest volume and moderate width, well supported by ribs, but not barrel-shaped. The bottom of the chest spreads down to the elbows. The bottom of the chest is a beautiful arc, lift excessively toward the back of the body.
Back: Degree and richness.
Waist: Short, muscular, and slightly arched. The lumbar hollows of all waists are quite narrow.
Hips: Compared to the back, they are almost flat.
Tail: It is the natural extension of the topline. The seat cannot be too short. The roots are strong and tapering towards the end, spreading to the hocks. Never dock the tail. The posture is a slightly forward and tortuous arc, but never bending to the back. A ring-shaped tail or a tail that is too short are faults.
Shoulder blade: The muscles are smooth and tilted backward.
Upper arm: The length of the upper arm bone is approximately the same as the length of the shoulder blade. It is combined with the shoulder blade and formed at a sufficient angle so that the toes can be positioned directly under the shoulder blade. Elbows: Close to the body.
Forelimbs: Straight, rich, and strong-boned.
Pasterns: The pasterns have a slight angle, showing flexibility.
Hindquarters: The hindquarters are very powerful, with smooth but well defined muscles.
Knee joints: Very good.
Hock: The position is short. When the Dalmatian dog stands, viewed from the front, the hind legs from the hock to the paws are parallel to each other. Beef limbs are a very serious fault.
Claws: Very important. The front and rear paws are very round and close, the pads are rich and elastic, and the toes are well arched. Flat feet are a very serious shortcoming. Dogs with black freckles have black and/or white toenails; dogs with liver freckles have brown and/or white toenails. Dewclaws may be removed.
Coat: The coat is short, rich, fine and close-fitting. Neither wool nor silk. The appearance of the coat is cunning, lustrous, and robust.
Color and pattern: Color, pattern and its overall appearance are factors that should be carefully considered during the evaluation. The base color is pure white. For dogs with black freckles, the freckles are deep black. Dogs with liver-colored freckles have liver-brown freckles. Except for this, all facial patterns are disqualifying.
Freckles: Freckles are round and clear, and the clearer the freckles, the better. Freckles are of appropriate size and evenly distributed. It is better if the freckles are not mixed. Often, freckles on the head, legs, and tail are smaller than those on the body. It is best to have freckles on the ears. Three colors (rarely seen in this species), three colors are disqualified. Create brown patterns on the head, neck, chest, legs and tail of dogs with black freckles or liver freckles. Bronze-colored black freckles, faded or darkened liver-colored freckles that occur due to environmental effects or normal changes in the coat are not tri-color. Color blocks: Color blocks are a disqualification. Color patches refer to large areas of pure black or liver-colored hair with no white coat. The area of freckles is larger than usual. The color blocks are concentrated, the colors are sparkling and the borders are clear and smooth. A large area of complexion consisting of many freckles mixed or overlapping is not considered a color patch. This complexion area shows many unique freckles, with rough borders, and may be covered with white hairs.
Gait: Smooth front and rear angles, powerful muscles in coordination, and good conditions produceSmooth and effective action. The driving force of the hindquarters is strong, combined with the ample reach of the forequarters. Topline maintenance. Elbows, hocks, and feet turn neither in nor out. As the running speed decreases, the trend is towards a simple trajectory.
