How do you tell whether a Labrador is pure or not? Labradors have obvious appearance, well-joined, uniform shape, square shape, square head, short face, wide mouth and broad back of the head, moderate stop, clear head lines, and uneven cheeks. Lots of meat, clear bone lines on the head, prominent surface under the eyes, but not over the cheeks, a slight core line showing on the head; lips not square or droopy. However creates an arc towards the throat target.
1. The appearance of each part is obvious, well connected, uniform in shape, square, square head, short face, wide mouth, broad back of the head, and moderate stop. The skull and front face are parallel to each other and about ten inches in length. The stop is moderate, and the eyebrows are slightly beyond, so the head to the tip of the nose is not a perfect straight line. The brow bone exaggerates the stop. The head is clear-cut and the cheeks are not fleshy. The bones of the head are clear-cut and the surface below the eyes is prominent but not beyond the cheeks. The head should show a slight core line; the lips should not be square or droopy. However creates an arc towards the throat target.
Nose: The nose is broad and the nostrils are very well developed. The nose of a yellow or black dog is black, and the nose of a chocolate dog is brown. Fading of the nose to a light shade is not a fault. A completely pink nose or a nose lacking all pigment is a disqualification.
Teeth: The teeth are thick and neat.
Ears: Hanging, too close to the head, set rather firmly back, slightly lower than the head; slightly higher than the level of the eyes. The ears should not be too large or heavy, but in proportion to the skull, they should extend to the inside of the eyes when pulled forward.
Eyes: Sharp and friendly eyes show good temperament. Intelligence and alertness are the characteristics of this breed. The eyes are of average size, and the positions are relatively wide apart, neither too wide nor too deep. Black or yellow dogs have brown eyes, and chocolate dogs have brown or hazel eyes. Black or yellow eyes make the look dazzling and unnecessary. Small eyes, eyes that are too close together, and eyes that are round and oversized are not typical eyes of this type. The eye circles of black or yellow Labrador Retrievers are black, and the eye circles of chocolate Labrador Retrievers are brown. Lack of pigment in the eye rims is a disqualification.
2. Bone quality should be high, look at the size of the paws, the bones are close, and the muscles are well defined and developed. The front chest is larger.
3. The Labrador Retriever’s coat is extraordinary. The coat is short, straight and very deep. If you touch it for a long time, it will feel very brittle and hard.
4. Labradors have three colors: black, yellow and chocolate. However, if there is hair mixed with other colors, it is impure. If there is a bunch of white on the black chest, it is disqualified.
